Though coffee is a pretty universal beverage, different regions and countries of the world boast their own distinct methods of brewing joe, and Mexico is no exception.
The typical cup of this stuff is both spicy and sweet, but the combination of spices and ingredients used to achieve this result vary, which you’ll see in each of the recipes below. Each one is slightly different, but all lead to the same goal: amazing Mexican-style coffee.
1
Iced Mexican Mocha
Sure, there are plenty of ways to spice up your morning cup of iced coffee, but making a Mexican mocha has to be one of the most delicious. This joe isn’t so intense that it overwhelms Roasty readers who are sensitive to spices, but it’s got just enough of a kick to put a little extra pep in your step.
2
Sugar And Spice Mexican Coffee
Our sweet and spicy Mexican coffee recipe (which you can check out here) is inspired by the country’s traditional cafe de olla, or coffee from a pot. We strongly recommend giving this stuff a try if you want to get a taste of an authentic Mexican java experience — no traveling required!
3
Dirty Horchata co*cktail
It’s not uncommon for a cold glass of horchata to be enjoyed on a warm day in Mexico. But when the sun goes down, the standard version of the rice-based drink goes away, and its more mature older cousin comes out to play. Meet the dirty horchata co*cktail. It’s just as delicious as the classic recipe, but thanks to the addition of coffee and Kahlua, it gets an edgy, grown-up upgrade.

A splash of coconut milk is what sets this Mexican mocha apart from others, and it pairs beautifully with the rich Mexican or dark chocolate, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper that go into this delicious cup. Check out this recipe here if you want something that’s good and good for you, too.

Looking for a co*cktail to serve at your next dinner party? Whip up a couple of Mexican coffee co*cktails for your pals. Mexican Coffee - Low Carb and Sugar Free

Just because you’re a health-conscious java drinker doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the goodness that is Mexican coffee. The comforting, cozy beverage is known for its sweetness, but with a few substitutions, you can enjoy it without all those extra calories, carbs, or sugar. Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it?
9
Mexican Coffee With Kahlua

The downside to getting a good cup of Mexican coffee at the local café is that, over time, the cost of those delicious drinks adds up to a pretty penny. Plus, the barista behind the counter probably won’t pour a few ounces of Kahlua into your mug, and let’s be honest: the drink’s more fun when alcohol is involved. Save yourself a few bucks by making your Mexican coffee at home, and use this guide to steer your home-brewing endeavors.

No, horchata isn’t a coffee drink, but it’s still a delicious Mexican beverage you can easily enjoy on a hot, summer afternoon. Plus, it’s easy to add a shot of espresso (or two...we won’t judge you) to the finished product. Try it; you’ll like it!

Everyone loves a good mocha, right? Of course, they do! And making a Mexican mocha is the best way to take that classic coffee drink to the next level. This particular recipe calls for Abuelita chocolate, a brand of chocolate manufactured by Nestlé for the specific purpose of making Mexican-style hot chocolate — that makes it a perfect fit for your iced Mexican mocha!

There’s no better way to spend a winter day than being curled up on the couch under a snuggly fleece blanket with a hot beverage in hand and a heartwarming flick on the television screen. Traditional Mexican Horchata

Want to experience a bit of Mexican culture but don’t have any vacation days to spare? Whip up a batch of chilled, delicious horchata. No, sipping the beverage on your back porch isn’t the same as enjoying it on say, the patio of a mission-style home, but at the very least, your taste buds can go on a Mexican adventure.

Spicy Mocha

This delicious spicy mocha recipe is likely inspired by that of the cayenne pepper and cinnamon-infused Mexican mocha. Bubbly steamed milk, rich dark espresso, spicy chocolate syrup, and a fresh cinnamon stick? Sounds like a formula for the perfect fall drink to us!

You know what they say...it’s five o’clock somewhere! Drinks, anyone? When your after-dinner co*cktail hour rolls around, prepare a couple of carajillo co*cktails for you and your guests. Add a shot of espresso to a bit of Licor 43, and you’ve got the perfect Mexican co*cktail!
