Fisher breaks career points record on Senior Day - Denison University (2024)

GRANVILLE, Ohio (April 20, 2024) – Luke Fisher's Senior Day will be one for the memory books as he became Denison University men's lacrosse's all-time career points leader. Meanwhile, the Big Red hosted the College of Wooster and earned a 23-6 victory over the Fighting Scots.

Fisher finished with four goals and four assists against the Fighting Scots and etched his name into the record books with his assist on a goal by Liam Gillard with 12:31 left in the third quarter. Fisher is a two-time North Coast Athletic Conference player of the Year who made his mark as a freshman by earning All-American honors. That season, Fisher led Denison to his first of three straight NCAC Championships and has since wreaked havoc on opposing defenses. As good as he is at scoring the ball, he is equally as good at setting up his teammates. He leads the Big Red in both goals scored (56) and assists (31) this season and has amassed 158 goals and 129 assists in his four years. With a grand total of 287 points, Fisher surpasses Liam Rooney's (2014-17) previous record of 282 points (120 goals; 162 assists).

In addition to Fisher, it was Senior Day for Nate Kay, Jack Chace, Jack Sload, Andrew Randall, Ethan Rice, Brooks Crowley, Clyde Bresnahan, Nick Vance, Sam Wadsworth and Owen O'Neill.

Denison trailed 2-0 six minutes in in this one before one of the seniors, Vance, got the Big Red onto the scoreboard with an assist by Fisher with 8:18 on the clock in the opening period.

Jack Hines scored twice in the final six minutes of the first quarter on assists by Fisher and Kay to give the Big Red a 2-1 lead after one quarter, and then Kay scored the opening goal of the second quarter as Denison scored the first six goals of the second period.

After a goal by Fisher with 5:05 left before halftime to tie the record, the final goal of Denison's 9-0 run came as Grant Larson won the faceoff and took it himself and scored in just six seconds. It was the third game in a row with a goal for Larson.

Starting with Wooster's goal to take a 2-0 lead six minutes into the game and ending with a goal with 6:34 left in the fourth quarter, the Denison defense held the Fighting Scots to just one goal for over a 47-minute span.

Behind Fisher's team leading eight points, Kay (4 goals; 3 assists) finished with seven points, Tommy Quinson (2 goals; 3 assists) had five points, and Vance (3 goals; 1 assists) and Hines (4 goals) both had four points.

It was a career-high in goals for Hines while Kay tied his career-high in points. In addition, Vance recorded his first-career hat trick while Gillard scored his first-career two-goal game.

As a team, Denison tied its season-highs in shot attempts (66) and man-up goals (5).

Colin MacLean was 10-for-12 on the faceoff while Larson was 8-for-12. O'Neill finished with three caused turnovers, Quinson added eight groundballs to his stat line, and Andrew Albert finished with nine saves and matched his season-high with a .750 save percentage.

In addition to improving to 11-5 overall and 7-0 in the NCAC, the win also represented Denison's 15th straight against Wooster (10-5 overall, 4-2 NCAC) since the 2011 season.

Denison will have a chance to win the NCAC Championship in its regular-season finale next weekend as the Big Red head to Ohio Wesleyan University (10-3 overall, 6-0 NCAC) starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 27.
