Springtime is mulch time (Mulchtyme?), and Home Depot carries a range of mulch, including natural and synthetic varieties in a variety of colors and wood types. (Mulchtyme sounds like an annual celebration of Hobbits in the Shire, doesn't it? Let's make it a thing.)
Mulch deals at Home Depot include savings on Vigoro (Lord Vigoro of Orthanc), which offers different colors plus rubber options, and Earthgro by Scotts, which has a reputation for quality and a rather pleasant-sounding name. (Let's have another pint of that Earthgro, Mr. Frodo.) Regular prices for wood mulch typically hover around $1.70 per cubic foot, but Home Depot mulch sale prices drop down to somewhere between $1 and $1.50 per cubic ft., which adds up to some pretty hefty savings in the aggregate.

Mulch Sale at Home Depot: Five Bags for $10
Boost curb appeal with this affordable mulch option. It's available in the pictured Brown, as well as Black and Red. (Stock may vary by location and time of year.) In addition to cosmetic appeal, this mulch helps retain moisture, moderate soil temperature, and prevent weeds when applied at a 3" depth.
It should retain its color for an entire year, which is longer than a lot of other brands. Just turn or rake the top 1" every three to four months to keep it looking fresh.

When Does Home Depot Mulch Go On Sale?
Mulch deals at Home Depot traditionally start around Easter, which fell on March 31, 2024. Five for $10 is the usual deal, which can apply to the Vigoro brand. Home Depot mulch sales usually appear again on July 4 and on Labor Day, which is September 2, 2024. Additionally, Earthgro tends to go on sale around May 1.
How Much Can I Save on Mulch Cost?
The typical spring sale price on Vigoro mulch is $3.33 for a 2-cubic-foot bag. (List is $3.97.) That's about $1.66 per cubic foot. Assuming a 5-for-$10 deal Easter weekend, that would be $2 per bag, or just $1 per cubic foot! That's just a little bit less than half off list price. There's a limit of 75 bags per order. Let's say you need 75 bags to adequately cover a space. (Depth should be 2" to 3".) List price would be $297.75; normal sale price would be $249.75, and Easter 5-for-$10 price comes out to just $150, which is about $148 off list price!
How Do I Get the Best Price on Mulch?
The best price for mulch clearly happens with the Home Depot Mulch Sale 5-for-$10 offer. Wait for Easter Weekend if you can, as this is the time of year we typically see the best offers on mulch. For the absolute lowest price, you'll want to drive to the store and pick it up yourself as delivery costs extra ($35 in our own experiment). If you're not ready for mulch on Easter weekend, look for more sales around the beginning of May through Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. Those discounts may not be as good as the Easter 5-for-$10 offer, but you'll still save significantly.
How Does Shopping Compare Online vs. In-Store?
Shopping for mulch online has advantages. First of all, you're a gardener, and your heart truly lies in peace and quiet and good tilled earth, not the inside of a crowded, noisy big box store! Online shopping makes it easy to view the full range of options, including brands, materials, colors, and prices. Home Depot even provides a coverage calculator on the product page, which helps you to know precisely how much mulch to buy to get the job done. Just choose the product, enter the dimensions of the space you're trying to cover, add to cart, and buy. Then go pick up your paid-for order at your nearest Home Depot, or pay a little extra to have it delivered.
What Else Should I Consider When Shopping Home Depot Mulch Deals?
Price per cubic foot may be the obvious consideration for buying mulch, but there are other factors to think about. Which color works best in the landscape design, for example. Options include red, black, brown, and even blue or green. Also, does the space require natural mulch, which enriches soil as it breaks down, or would long-lasting rubber mulch that maintains its color work better for your situation? (Particularly if your situation involves mulching once and forgetting about it for the next 12 years, because you and/or your gardener have gone off on some crazy adventure involving a ring, a wizard, and the end of the world and won't be available for mulching for a very long time.)
