Why This Recipe Works

Is there any food that is more comforting than Chicken Noodle Soup? There is a reason this is the go-to recipe for sickness and strife. Chicken Noodle Soup comforts and heals on gloomy days and also on regular ol’ any-days. It’s like a warm, cozy blanket wrapped around your brain, mind and body.

I’ve been reluctant to try making this soup in my Instant Pot because I believed it could never live up to my slow cooker chicken noodle soup recipe. But ohhhh goodness was I wrong.

This version of the soup is absolute perfection, you guys. I could barely comprehend the deliciousness as I sat and ate my first bowl. The noodles come out perfectly cooked and the flavor is out-of-this-world delicious.

How to Make Instant Pot Chicken Noodle Soup

When the weather gets cold and rainy or you are under the weather, a bowl of soup is the perfect comfort food to warm up with!

Step 1

Set Instant Pot to the saute setting. Add the olive oil and heat for 2 minutes. Add garlic, onion and carrots and saute for 3-5 minutes, or until garlic and onion are soft and fragrant.

Add parsley, thyme, a bay leaf, salt and pepper to the pot and stir.

Step 2

Add the chicken broth/stick and chicken breasts to the pot. Place the lid on the pot and set timer to 6 minutes on high pressure (soup setting). It will take the IP around 10 minutes to build up pressure before it begins cooking.

When cooking is done, release pressure naturally for 15 minutes, then do a quick release.

Step 3

Unlock the lid, then remove the chicken to a cutting board; shred.

Add egg noodles to the pot and replace lid. Set to low pressure and cook for 2 minutes. Do a quick release, remove lid and turn off Instant Pot; add the shredded chicken back to the pot. Let sit for 2 minutes in the pot and serve with fresh parsley.

Recipe Notes

  • Sliced celery is a great addition to this soup!
  • When you pressure cook the chicken along with the soup, such delicious flavor is added. If you’d prefer to add pre-cooked, pre-shredded chicken (maybe from a Rotisserie chicken) simply add it to the pot at the end of the recipe, as stated.
  • Replace egg noodles with another type of similarly-shaped pasta, if desired.

What is the Soup Setting on an Instant Pot

The soup setting is one of my favorite settings on the Instant Pot because it controls the temp and keeps liquids from coming to a rolling boil. I love cooking soups low and slow because it brings out such delicious flavor.

What to Serve With Chicken Noodle Soup

Personally, I love chicken noodle soup topped with chopped parsley, salt and pepper and that’s it. Crumbled saltine crackers are a great topping, as well, because they soak up the delicious liquids and provide a yummy texture to the soup.

If you are looking for something else to serve alongside it, consider cheese or garlic bread, biscuits, bread sticks, a grilled cheese sandwich or a side or chopped salad.

Why Does it Take My Instant Pot So Long to Pressurize

The time leading up to actual cook time may seem long and even confusing (“What is going ON in there?!”), but it’s an important part of the process! The Instant Pot is working on building up the appropriate amount of pressure that it will be cooking the food at.

It handles liquids and solids differently and also fresh and frozen differently, so the time can vary. Most recipes take between 10 and 25 minutes to build up pressure.
