New Genesis: Cocoons and Towers (2024)

Cocoons and Towers are mysterious structures found in the fields of Planet Halpha. Contained within them are enclosed, instanced Cocoon Quests and Tower Quests, known as Trainias, which allow you to learn various movement and combat techniques, and earn Skill Points upon completing them for the first time.

When interacting with the door to a Cocoon or Tower, you are shown various details about the Cocoon/Tower Quest within which are detailed below.

On your World Map, Cocoons are represented as pink "barrel-like" icons (New Genesis: Cocoons and Towers (2)), and Towers are represented as pink tower icons (New Genesis: Cocoons and Towers (3)). Selecting the icon for a Cocoon or Tower also allows you to view the details of the Cocoon/Tower Quest and if conditions are correct, you can start the Cocoon Quest from the World Map.

Trainia progression

In Trainias your objective to clear a Main Mission, which will require you to defeating all enemies, defeating a specific enemy or reaching a finish line of an obstacle course. Completing this main mission ends the quest. However, during the quest you will get 4 Sub Missions. Those are optional objectives, failing them will not fail the quest, however it will affect the amount of stars you earn from the mission. The final Sub Mission from them all is to complete all Sub Missions in a single run, therefore to earn maximum amount of stars you will have to clear all of them in 1 attempt, which can prove challenging.

Unlike other quests, while Trainias have a Recommended Power Level indicator in quest information, you are not required to meet it, you can start the quest as soon as you discover it on the World Map and, like all Single Party Quests, are in the correct region.

All Trainias have a failure condition. In early regions, it's a lenient one, but in later ones, the Fail condition is not super tight but if you are ill equipped or prepared, it can be a problem.

In most Trainias you can play with up to 4 people. This quest does not have a player-based HP correction - all enemies will assume that you're playing solo and have appropriate HP. If you're having trouble clearing, consider grabbing a friend or two to help out. Please note however that Sub Mission and Failure Condition will accumulate as a party, so if someone gets incapacitated, that will count against everyone, regardless if they died or not.

You are ranked Stars instead of a regular S-C ranking system, based on amount of missions cleared. You get 5 stars for clearing all subs, all down to 1 star for just getting the main mission done. Internally however, 5 star is S rank, 3 star is A rank, 2 star is B rank, 1 star is C rank. Completing all Cocoons and all Towers at max star ranking will give you a title for your efforts.

You will not be able to earn drops in this quest, however all kills count towards Tasks. On first clear, you will earn skill points, 1 SP from Cocoon, 4 SP from Tower. This is the only way to earn Skill Points in NGS, you do not get them by level up!!

Rank 2 and Challenge Settings

In Trainias that are not tutorial ones nor ones with Main Mission "Reach the Finish Point", upon clearing the mission for the first time you'll unlock Rank 2. The Rank 2 will require you to reach the Recommended Battle Power in addition to level, as this quest level-scales along with the highest leveled person in the party, like Trinitas Quests.

Furthermore, you will be given access to Challenge Settings. All of them unlock at once upon clearing Rank 1 and are available to use. Please note however that putting too high Challenge Settings might make it impossible to 5 star the mission. Completing the quest at any star ranking with 250% Clear Difficulty Modifier awards you a title.

This in effect might cause Enhanced Enemies and Megalotix to spawn in the mission, and they count all the same in Tasks. This might be a good way to clean out some Loop Tasks that require you to reach a certain level of enemies.

Quests that have both (or only one rank if R2 is not accessible) ranks not completed will have a pink exclamation indicator. Quests that have been 5 stared on all possible Ranks will show a star on the World Map.
