Ingredients Needing For These Christmas M&M Cookie Recipe

  • 1 Stick of Butter– This butter needs to be softened in order to cream together well with other ingredients, so set it out on the counter overnight.Softened, remember, not melted!Use unsalted butter if you can. If what you have on hand is salted butter, then simply don’t add the salt as a separate ingredient.
  • 1 Cup of Sugar– Use white sugar for this chewy sugar cookie. If you’d like a hint of that rich molasses flavor, trade out half of the white sugar for packed brown sugar.
  • 1 Egg– Here’s a tip! Your egg will incorporate more smoothly into your creamed butter and sugar if you set it out early and let it come up to room temperature!
  • 2 Teaspoons of Vanilla Extract-Because all delicious cookies have a splash of vanilla extract.
  • 2 Cups of Flour– All purpose flour is just fine! If your family uses almond flour or whole wheat flour, just keep in mind that the big difference is that those types of flours soak up more moisture. You’ll either need to add a bit more butter and milk, or not use quite as much flour.
  • 1/4 Teaspoon of Salt– If you’re using salted butter, you can skip this ingredient. Salt keeps the cookies sweet without them being too rich.
  • 1/4 Teaspoon of Baking SodaYour leavening agent, ladies and gentlemen! For the best cookies, double check that your box of baking soda is fresh. After it’s been opened for a couple months, it loses its potency!
  • 2 Tablespoons of Milk– If you need to avoid dairy, almond milk is just fine!
  • 2 Cups of Christmas M&Ms– What makes these Christmas M&M cookies pop is the red and green M&M candies running through them! (Pssst…. is it spring right now? Make Easter cookies by swapping to pastel M&M candies!)

Top Tip For The Perfect Cookie

Sure, these cookies are delicious if you make the dough and bake them right after, but, if you have the time, chilling the dough for at least 24 hours will give you ridiculously chewy M&M cookies.

They’re even better if you can leave the dough to chill for up to 3 days!

Chilling cookie dough gives the egg a chance to hydrate the starch in the flour.

It also gives time for enzymes in some of the ingredients to break down the carbohydrates into sugars.

Yay science!
